AI Data Center Optics and Capacity: RFQ Planning Notes for Electronics Buyers
AI infrastructure demand is driving data center revenue, silicon photonics capacity and server demand, reinforcing the need for earlier RFQ and BOM planning.

AI infrastructure demand is now affecting a wider set of electronic components beyond GPUs and memory. Data center optics, networking, silicon photonics, power delivery, connectors, passive components and supporting BOM lines are all becoming more important for procurement teams.
Reuters reported on June 2 that STMicroelectronics raised its data center revenue goals, driven by AI demand. The company is also weighing further expansion of its Crolles facility in France as demand rises for silicon photonics used in high-speed optical connections for AI data centers.
Reuters also reported that Nvidia says it has secured sufficient capacity to support robust AI-related CPU and GPU growth, while HPE surged after AI infrastructure demand boosted server expectations. These signals show that AI infrastructure buildout remains a major driver across semiconductor and server supply chains.
For electronics buyers, the practical issue is that strong AI data center demand may affect availability, quotation validity and lead time for supporting components such as power management ICs, MOSFETs, IGBTs, connectors, sensors, optical-related parts, memory components and PCB-related materials.
A complete RFQ should include manufacturer part number, quantity, target price, required delivery schedule, required date code or year, preferred brand, acceptable alternatives, packaging requirements and a BOM file where available.
JZP Components supports RFQ follow-up and BOM review for ICs, MCUs, MOSFETs, IGBTs, connectors, sensors, memory components, passive components, obsolete parts and hard-to-find components.
